 Art in EYFS and KS1

Elm and Birch are exploring the natural world around them from apples to hedgehogs to ladybirds. The children are always busy being creative and experimenting with the tools around them. Here are some examples of their learning:

Willow class are exploring the art of Wassily Kandinsky this term. They have first created their own colour wheels to learn about the primary and secondary colours. Then they experimented with adding black and white to colours to create tone before painting concentric circles.

Oak class are learning all about the abstract artist Piet Mondrian. They also began their unit by painting a colour wheel to recap their learning from last year. They researched into the life and work of Piet Mondrian and have begun to paint in his style. Next they'll be recreating a map of Alsagers Bank in his style!

Art in KS2

Ash and Sycamore class have been exploring form and structure through their History topic of Ancient Egypt. They have researched canopic jars, explored different designs to help them draw their own using sketching techniques, before creating their own canopic jars out of clay.

Maple class are learning about Ancient Greek art. They have looked at different forms of artwork such as statues and pottery to help them design and make their own Ancient Greek pot.

They are now exploring the artist Victoria Topping, using a photo collage technique to turn themselves into a mythical creature.

After school clubs

This first half term art club was open to KS2 pupils. We painted water resisted leaves using crayons to create patterns and watercolour paints. We have also made autumnal silhouettes of different woodland animals, by painting over an animal we had cut out before peeling it away. We have origami bats ready for Halloween, and creative portraits of ourselves!

Also as a whole school we have contributed to decorating a shell for the New Vic's production of The Little Mermaid:
