Art in EYFS and KS1
Elm and Birch are exploring the natural world around them from apples to hedgehogs to ladybirds. The children are always busy being creative and experimenting with the tools around them. Here are some examples of their learning:
Willow class are exploring the world of natural art. They have learned about the sculptor Andy Goldsworthy, and will be creating their own natural art sculptors. Later on in the term, they will be combining their knowledge of plants in science, and using observation skills to sculpt a flower out of clay.

Oak class are learning all about the artist Henri Matisse. They have learned about his artist journey and are delving deeper into his cut-out era. We will be thinking about colour and composition when creating our cut-outs, and have already begun to explore how we can use the colour wheel to support our colour choices. Later on in the term we will be learning about another abstract artist - Bridget Riley, who created optical illusions using colour and shape.

Art in KS2
Ash and Sycamore class are learning all about their local history - The Potteries! Their key artist for the term is Clarice Cliff. They have been learning about her life and influence on the Potteries. This term they will also be learning about two current artists - Olivia and Emily Kilby, as well as designing a plate in the style inspired by these artists. They will also be going on an exciting trip to Gladstone Pottery Museum, where they will have a sculpting and painting pottery workshop!

Art Club!
Summer Term:
KS2 have been exploring a different artist and skill each week. So far we have learned how to watercolour paint like Monet and draw in the Pop Art style of Eduardo Paolozzi:
Autumn Term:
The second half of the Autumn term was all about Christmas for KS1 pupils! We made gingerbread men paper chains, toilet roll reindeers, tiny tinsel Christmas trees and woolly Christmas tree decorations:
This first half term art club was open to KS2 pupils. We painted water resisted leaves using crayons to create patterns and watercolour paints. We have also made autumnal silhouettes of different woodland animals, by painting over an animal we had cut out before peeling it away. We have origami bats ready for Halloween, and creative portraits of ourselves!

We are extremely proud to announce that we have 4 winners from Newcastle Under Lyme's Britain in Bloom art competition this year. Our winners have been invited to the award ceremony at Keele University in June.
In the Autumn term, we decorated a shell for the New Vic's production of The Little Mermaid. Every child in the school contributed by creating a fish in whichever way they chose to and then a selection from each class was made. We were very proud to see our shell hanging in the New Vic Theatre on our school visit to the production of the Little Mermaid in December.
